Kristin Davis is a recovering alcoholic

Kristin Davis is a beautiful brunette, most famous for her role as Charlotte York on ‘Sex and the City’. Charlotte – a proper, pleasant and conservative character. A character she played so well and believable many were surprised to find out the actress is a recovering alcoholic, with her real-life teen years consisting of a debaucheries and a partying lifestyle.

And while her character enjoys drinking the odd Cosmopolitan with the girls, Kristin has decided to abstain from alcohol completely.

“I’m a recovering alcoholic,” celebrity-gossip.net quotes Kristin as saying. “I’ve never hidden it, but I’ve been sober the whole time I’ve been famous, so it wasn’t like I had to go to rehab publicly.”

It all started, she says, while she was in high school in Southern Carolina. “To the outside world, I was a good girl,” she says in an interview with The Guardian.

“But I drank a lot, which was rebellious because my parents didn’t drink at all. In the South, pretty much everybody drinks. There was always lots of alcohol, lots of access to alcohol, people sitting around every night with a Mint Julep, or whatever.”

She remains decidedly sober, and won’t touch a drop of alcohol. “I’ve been sober a long time,” she says.

Her biggest passion in life was what made the actress, 22 at the time, quit drinking. “I just realized that drinking was counterproductive to what I was trying to do. Acting is very difficult in weird ways. You’d have to get to class by 8am, work all day, rehearse all night, and it’s not really good to do when you’re hung over. I’d wanted to be an actress my whole life, that was my goal, that was all I cared about. Something had to go, so I chose drinking to go.”

In an interview with MarieClaire, Kristin said: “I really didn’t think I would pass 30. I don’t know why or whatever, I just didn’t. Maybe it’s because I was drinking so much as a youth. I drank a lot when I was a teenager and I don’t drink any more, because that’s when I thought, you know, I’m gonna end up a car wreck. I just had a fatalistic view of the whole situation at that point.”

She adds: “I believe [alcoholism] is a disease. I don’t think you can mess with it. [People would ask me] ‘Couldn’t you just have one glass of champagne?’ And I would say, ‘No.’ I’m doing well. I still have occasional bad days. Why risk it?”

Other celebrities who have battled addictions include Johnny Cash, Drew Barrymore, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan and Mickey Rourke, to name only a few.
