George Michael released early from jail
Published: October 11, 2020
Singer George Michael, who landed himself a stint in jail after being arrested for crashing his car under the influence of cannabis, has been released after serving just half of his 8 week sentence.
The former Wham! star seemed to be in high spirits as he spoke to reporters outside his home in London: “I’m coming out here on my own so that you’ll realise I just want to start again.
“I’m going to try to stop running away from you guys. You’ll get sick of me. You’ll see me about.
“I just want to say thank you for everybody who has supported me in there, it’s quite inspirational.”
As reported by Daily Mail, the 47-year-old singer was moved to the more cushy good behavior unit of Highpoint after spending three nights in London’s tough Pentonville prison. Highpoint is also referred to as Hi-de-Highpoint, named after the TV holiday camp comedy because of its relatively lax regime. Other inmates were not particularly impressed with Michael’s apparently preferential treatment; it’s the norm for prisoners to have to wait for months, sometimes even years, before they receive a place on the wing.
