The Dr. Andrew Weil Diet

The Dr. Andrew Weil Diet does not promise quick weight loss solutions. Instead, it focuses on eating the right kinds of food to avoid various health concerns like obesity, allergies, infections, arthritis and sinusitis. This diet is all about properly managing the amount and type of food we eat by assessing carbohydrates, fats and proteins in our daily diet. The optimum diet according to Dr. Andrew Weil is as follows:
- The diet should be varied in order to get everything you want and eliminate everything you don’t need
- The diet should be rich in fresh fruits and vegetables
- The diet should be low in processed foods
- The diet should contain optimum level of calories composing of 50%-60% carbohydrates, 30% fat and 10%-20% protein in each meal.
As part of the Dr. Andrew Weil Diet, the dieters are asked to eat at least 40 grams of fiber per day, which can easily be done with consumption of fruits, vegetables and whole grains at regular intervals. The dieters should limit dairy products like milk and cheese because there is more difficulty in digesting these food items. In order to ensure calcium intake, the dieters can eat sea vegetables, tofu, sesame seeds, fortified soymilk and orange juice. Influenced by the Mediterranean Diet, this diet plan needs to be divided in to carbohydrates, fats and proteins. According to Dr. Andrew, carbohydrates are greatly responsible for gaining weight, so they need to be consumed in moderation, which helps in maintaining a low glycemic index.
This diet plan offers a holistic approach with special emphasis on eating less and exercising more in order to fight obesity and lose weight.
