The vegan diet
Published: February 17, 2021
Vegans do not eat eggs, fish and other animal products. While a vegan diet has been proven to be healthy and is effective in combating weight issues, vegans do not follow veganism just for health reasons or for weight loss, but also for ethical and environmental concerns. The vegan diet is high on fibres, fruits and nutritional food.
Veganism is the next step after vegetarianism and can be adopted gradually with the passage of time. Most vegan diets consist of plant food but for the starters, they do eat some dairy products and eggs and slowly make transition to what is called “complete veganism”.
Some of the best vegan food is comprised of whole grains, fruits and legumes, which contain no cholesterol and are a great source of protein instead of animal food products. Many famous people including Benjamin Franklin, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Pamela Anderson, Alicia Silverstone and many more have or continue to practice veganism.
Consuming animal fats and proteins lead to increased risk of hypertension, arthritis and diabetes which a vegan diet prevents. People who eat red meat have a higher chance of dying prematurely. The three most popular and basic reasons most people turn to veganism are health, environment and animal rights.
While chalking out a vegan diet, it is important to make sure that no mistakes be made in the preparation because vegan food still depends largely on the choice of individuals. What is vegan to one may not be vegan to another.
