A recent study has revealed that intake of vitamins as well as calcium pills cuts down the risk of developing breast cancer. According to www.sciencedaily.com, the momentum of breast cancer diagnosis has prompted scientists to look for ways to prevent breast cancer. The study has been conducted by the researchers at the Ponce School of Medicine, Puerto Rico. Experts carried out the study on about 268 women who were suffering from breast cancer. The findings suggested that women who consumed calcium and vitamin supplements had improved DNA in their bodies responsible for boosting the repair capacity, which if interrupted leads to formation of cancer.
As reported by www.express.co.uk, consumption of these supplements cut down the risk of breast cancer development by as much as 40 percent. The study has brought to light that together with other lifestyle factors like reduced smoking and alcohol intake, routine work out and healthy diet and regular intake of calcium and vitamin supplements could also pave way for reduced risk of breast cancer. “It is not an immediate effect. You don’t take a vitamin today and your breast cancer risk is reduced tomorrow. However, we did see a long-term effect in terms of breast cancer reduction.” explained Dr Jaime Matta, lead author.
