Aretha Franklin ‘in great spirits’ as she is released from hospital

Soul singer Aretha Franklin has been released from hospital after undergoing “highly successful” surgery for an undisclosed illness.
The 68 year old, who had surgery on 2 December, said in a statement: “I’ve been at home for almost three days now.”
“My family and friends who brought me home are aking freat care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits me on a daily basis.
Unconfirmed reports state that she is suffering from pancreatic cancer, which is extremely aggressive with only a 5% - 10% survival rate.
But despite the poor prognosis, the star of hits such as Respect and Think is, according to a representative, “in great spirits and very happy to be home where she will be resting in anticipation of spending the upcoming holiday season with her family.”
And Aretha has no intention of spending all her time behind closed doors. “I’m hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before January 2, as well as a performance of Dreamgirls at the FOX before it closes,” she said.
