Christine Applegate got her breakthrough for her role as the sexy but not so intelligent Kelly Bundy in the hit 1980s and 90s TV sitcom “Married … With Children”. Applegate, a gorgeous blonde, then proceeded to act in several high profile movies, including ‘The Sweetest Thing’, ‘Just Visiting’, ‘View From The Top’ and ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy’. But she wasn’t only successful on the big breen, she also acted in several broadway hits before starring in TV show ‘Samantha Who?’
In August 2008 it was announced that Christina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her spokesperson released a statement saying: “Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor-ordered MRI, the cancer is not life-threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery.”
Just a few weeks later it was announced that Applegate had a double mastectomy and she was declared cancer free. Although the cancer was located in only one of her breasts, Applegate decided to go ahead with a double mastectomy (she had both of her breasts removed) as she had inherited a genetic fault known as the BRCA1 mutation, (What is this? ) which makes her more likely to get breast cancer. Over several months following the double mastectomy, Applegate had both of her breasts reconstructed.
Due to the double mastectomy she did not need to undergo chemotherapy or radiation.
