Jake Gyllenhaal eats home grown food to stay in shape

The 29-year-old star of Donnie Darko, Prince of Persia and The Day After Tomorrow says that he’s not bothered about hitting the gym to keep in shape these days, especially for his naked scenes in Love and Other Drugs, as he eats healthy home grown vegetables.
He felt that bulking up for the role would have done a disservice to his character, “I didn’t think about getting in shape. I wanted my character to be a little sinewy and slimy.”
“I used to go to the gym but I don’t do that anymore. I don’t follow a special diet but I try and eat well, so I grow my own vegetables.”
And Gyllenhaal is not alone in growing his own food as actress Nicole Kidman also prefers the green fingered approach. She grows organic food in her garden at her and husband Keith Urban’s Nashville home, and she is encouraging two-year-old daughter Sunday Rose to follow in her horticultural footsteps.
On the start of her home farming she said: “We just planted our vegetables for the summer and all we have at the moment is lettuce. I’m hoping the corn will be beautiful, because I love eating corn out of the garden.”
Johnny Depp, self confessed recluse, admitted recently that he hates leaving the house except to check on the progress of his home grown vegetables.
He said: “We have a great place in the South of France. It’s a little hamlet - only about 45 acres - and I don’t do anything.
“I’ve not left the property for three months at a time. I literally just wake up, go out, check the garden and see the vegetables growing. It’s a pristine existence in terms of simplicity. There’s no talk of movies or work and, infinitely more importantly, the telephone never rings. It really is a beautiful, simple life.”
The news that celebrities grow their own food is an indication that people’s ideas of weight loss are moving away from quick fix diet pills which have raised so much controversy recently over fears concerning heart conditions, and celebrities are leaning more towards healthy, wholesome dietary changes and practises like yoga to stay in shape.
