Julian Lennon exhibits “Timeless” photo collection

Published: December 04, 2020

One can only imagine how difficult life has been for Julian Lennon after being abandoned three times (in his own words) by his father, the late John Lennon.  Forging his own path in the shadow of his father’s success and tragedy must have been excruciatingly difficult, yet he has continued to live with quiet dignity whilst still in remorse at the loss of his coveted father.

These days he is something of a cultural icon and his music has achieved much success, but his latest offering comes just a few weeks before the 30th anniversary of his father’s untimely death.

On November 23rd Julian Lennon presented “Timeless”, a collection of his photographs which began exhibition on December 1st, during the week of Art Basel Miami Beach and ends December 5th.  His work is currently on display at The New Generation Green Room, Adrienne Arsht Centre for the Performing Arts, and is open to the public between 12 noon and 10pm.

Lennon’s love of photography developed at an early age and he has tried to capture his view of the world through the lens.  His good friend Timothy White encouraged him to set up the exhibition and take his photographic work more seriously.  His portfolio includes landscapes, U2 in session and his brother Sean Lennon.

Wednesday 8th December sees the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s murder by Mark Chapman at his New York apartment. Speaking on CNN, Julian Lennon spoke of his abandonment issues and his sympathy for his little brother Sean who he feels suffered the same kind of problems – that their father left them both behind, albeit under different circumstances.

When asked whether Mark Chapman should be granted parole at the 7th time of asking he was evasive, saying, “I know we’re supposed to find a space for forgiveness in our hearts.”

Julian Lennon has also been focusing on environmental and humanitarian issues through his “White Feather Foundation” which was launched in 2008.  The foundation works in conjunction with other groups to raise money to make life improvements where needed.
