Tom Cruise believes ADD is a myth
Published: December 20, 2020
Attention deficit disorder is a common childhood problem, which explains the lack of focus and concentration a child may have. These days, attention deficit disorder is being combined with hyperactivity and has been renamed as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Many individuals in the Western World are believed to be suffering from this disorder. It usually begins during childhood, with approximately one child in every U.S. classroom diagnosed. While ADHD is easily treatable with medication, it may continue to accompany many adults throughout their lives.
Famous people who are believed to have ADD/ADHD include names of legendary artists and geniuses like Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein. Among Hollywood actors, Tom Cruise is known for his ADHD and has always been in the public eye for his insane statements about this disorder.
Tom has always been a soft target of the media for his over the top remarks against psychologists and about his theory of Scientology, of which he is a follower. He was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dyslexia at an early age.
He said in an interview in early 2009: “I asked myself if I was normal or an idiot.
“I would try to concentrate but I felt anxiety, frustration and boredom.
“When I graduated from high school in 1980 I was functionally illiterate.
“Nobody gave me a solution and I wanted to know why the system had failed.
“Finally, as an adult I learned to read perfectly through the method of L. Ron Hubbard.”
The is couch-jumping incident on the Oprah Winfrey show got him a lot of (negative) media attention and may be interpreted as a symptom of ADHD.
The crazy thing about the whole situation is the fact that Tom Cruise firmly believes that ADD/ADHD is a myth. With so many children taking drugs to treat ADHD, Tom Cruise was quoted as saying, “[Psychiatrists] said, ‘Oh, you know, Ritalin is safe. It’s safe. It’s safe. Ritalin is an amphetamine”.
He also made remarks where he tagged psychologists as drug.
Some of the incidents in his early childhood can be the cause behind his ADHD including the phase when he changed so many schools in a short time span. Tom has always been a staunch supporter of scientology drug withdrawal program and always criticized ADHD saying that there is no science behind psychiatry and HealthCentral.com quotes him as saying: “You know what? I’m sure drug dealers on the street, in some way, they are making money. That’s what I equate it to.” Though this disorder might concern many of us but it is important to remember that it is not a curse and can be easily managed.
Other celebrities who have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD include Will Smith, Michael Phelps, Jim Carrey and Jamie Oliver.

Who wrote this crap? Don’t you think it’s a little insensitive to call his remarks “insane” on a website like this? Or is that what this website is about? Making fun of people with disorders (whether they believe they have them or not…)

I don’t believe in ADD or ADHD either. Some boys (and most ADD and ADHD sufferers are boys) are bright and energetic. They don’t fit in with today’s schools, which expect teamwork and boredom to be the norm. Psychiatry is NOT and exact science and most Psychiatrists these days are simply pill pushers.
