Type 1 diabetic coma the cause for Casey Johnson’s death?

Published: January 05, 2021

Following the sudden death of Casey Johnson - heiress to the Johnson & Johnson family fortune - reports have been published by several sources and newspapers linking the demise to her known history of diabetes.

Ms Johnson was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was just 8 years old. Together with her mother Sale Johnson and her father Robert Wood “Woody” Johnson, IV, owner of the New York Jets and Chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, she wrote a book about diabetes diets in 1994 (when she was 14 years old). The publication is still available to buy on Amazon

Similar to the sudden death of Brittany Murphy, who suffered from type 2 diabetes, Casey Johson might not have followed the advice detailed in her own book, which states that a strict diet is necessary and that the sufferer must take extreme care when ingesting any illegal or even prescribed substances, as well as alcoholic beverages.

Insulin syringes were reportedly found at Ms Johnson’s home (which does not come as a surprise, because the treatment for this form of diabetes usually comes in the form of regular insulin injections).

Online sources also report that Johnson was taken to LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at least once in 2009 due to problems with her condition including diabetic shock and even diabetic coma.

Type 1 diabetes is relatively uncommon in the United States, with approximately one in 250 individuals suffering from it. People are usually diagnosed before the age of 20 and physicians are still unsure over what causes the illness.

Other celebrities who died in 2009 include Stephen GatelyCasey JohnsonAdam Goldstein and Michael Jackson.
