Whoopi Goldberg admits menopause was difficult

Whoopi Goldberg is one of the most established actresses in Hollywood: roles in movies like ‘The Color Purple’, ‘Ghost’ and ‘Sister Act’ saw her catapult to fame. Whoopi is also an outspoken woman, who has not shied away from sharing her difficulties in dealing with menopause.
Speaking about dealing with menopause, which came knocking on her door when she was 50, she admits she at first didn’t know how to handle it. Whoopi told Starpulse.com: “I am haywire! I’m up, down, hot, cold, I’m all over the place.”
Incidentally, menopause also took a huge toll on her sex drive. She says that her desires remained in a dwindling phase for a long period of time. “My sex drive has totally changed,” ContactMusic.com quotes her as saying. “One minute I’m like, ‘Yeah! I can’t wait for it.” The next I’m saying, ‘Oh God, go away.’”
In addition, Whoopi Goldberg also spoke about her battle with recurring mood swings, which she claims nearly turned her mad. She reminisced in an interview about how she used to shout at people for days and then seal the issue with a greeting card. Speaking about her frequent mood swings, Whoopi said: “And my moods are completely erratic. I could cuss you out for two weeks, then send you a Hallmark card to say I’m sorry. All of a sudden I don’t mind saying to people, ‘You know what? Get out of my life. You’re not right for me.’”
Once she was also heard saying that menopause was liberating. Apparently, her struggle with menopause had been covered far and wide by the media and she also made headlines by the way she dressed which mirrored her changing personality. Speaking about her womanhood, Whoopi said: “It’s wonderful and liberating. (But) the menopause can be hard to deal with because it really is a shock when it hits you. There’s no countdown. It’s just boom. All those years bitching about my period and when it stopped, I was stunned to realize how much my womanhood was tied into it. It hits you hard.”
The Oscar-winning actress went on to add: “Menopause is like never getting your way, ever. Not every day, but most days - 95 per cent of them. You just think, ‘I’m not getting my way. I’m hot, I don’t wanna be hot! I’m sweating, I don’t like it!’ Nothing is good.”

I just absolutely love Whoopi’s honesty here about menopause. In fact, I just like her personality in general because she says what she feels and she feels what she says.
When you read what she writes about menopause, it initally sounds like she is complaining a lot about the symptoms and she’s almost apologetic about her mood swings, however, if you read between the lines, you’ll see that she’s just being herself (just a little more intense than normal).
She talks about rejecting certain people whom she no longer wishes to put up. Hello and welcome to menopause. We’re not bitches, we’re just finally being honest! LOL
