Billy Joel on the mend after double hip-replacement surgery
Published: November 25, 2020
Billy Joel is said to be recovering well after having double hip-replacement surgery at Long Island hospital to correct a congenital condition.
The singer announced on the Howard Stern Show last week that he would be having the operation, joking that all his years of bouncing on the stage were to blame for his troublesome hips.
According to the crooner’s rep Claire Mercuri he is “doing extremely well”, People magazine reports. His ex-wife and former model Christine Brinkly also confirmed that he was doing well post-op, saying: “He did them both at the same time. Billy said ‘It I do it one at a time I know I’ll never go in for the other.
She added to RadarOnline.com:”He’s doing really well. He’s really coming through with flying colors.”
Accounts from an eyewitness who saw Joel shortly before he underwent the surgery reveal that the 61 year old was in a pretty rough shape prior to undergoing the surgery. As reported on EOnline.com:”He looked so frail, he was struggling to get around, to walk it looked like.
“He had crutches and was moving slowly, kind of dragging them on the ground and grunting. People with him were being very patient, and he was nice and seemed in a good mood, just moving pretty slow.”
The Grammy winner toured this year and was recently promoting the documentary film The Last Play at Shea. Let’s hope he has a speedy recovery so that he can get back to doing what he does best: performing!
Another celebrity to have undergone hip surgery is Regis Philbin.

You have an error in your article. He’s not 66 years old.
Billy Joel was born May 9, 1949. So, he is 61 years old.
And BJ, hope you got bionic legs when it’s all over.
A fan since I was 8 years old! (now 41)…
