Coconut oil could cure acne

Researchers at the University of California are working on the development of a new cure for treating acne and other skin related problems. According to www.sciencedaily.com, the treatment is based on the lauric acid, which is a component found in the coconut oil. The research is being led by biomedical student Dissaya “Nu” Pornpattananangkul, who is developing a rather smart way to heal acne by transporting nano scale bombs filled with lauric acid, directly to the skin to deal with acne bacteria.
As many as 85 percent of teenagers suffer from acne vulgaris and at present, the treatments available are only partially effective and tend to cause burning sensations and redness. Apparently, Lauric Acid could help avoid such side effects.
As per www.ibtimes.com.au, certain gold nano particles remain attached to nano bombs and help them locate the bacteria responsible for causing acne. As soon as nano bombs filled with lauric acid come in contact with the skin’s micro environment, they start shedding from the gold particles and destroy the bacteria responsible for causing acne.
“All building blocks of the nano-bombs are either natural products or have been approved for clinical use, which means these nano-bombs are likely to be tested on humans in the near future.” remarked Dissaya “Nu” Pornpattananangkul.
Celebrities who have suffered from acne include Cameron Diaz and Katy Perry.
