Rheumatoid Arthritis can negatively affect sex drive

A new study has revealed that sex drive of the patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) takes a plunge. According to www.in.news.yahoo.com, Rheumatoid Arthritis effects the physical functioning of the patients by moderate to severe level. The study was conducted through a Health Assessment Questionnaire by a team of researchers. The findings of the study established that the main problem faced by the patients who are still sexually active is that of absence of libido which was found in 47 percent patients.  The second major reason behind the affected sex life is stiffness in joints like knees, wrists and fingers which was mentioned by 24 percent patients.

As reported by www.mediaticks.com, the study was carried out on about 1,271 RA patients. Out of these, 66 percent people reported that their sex drive underwent a rough phase due to Rheumatoid arthritis. The study also made a rather shocking discovery that the patients refrain from talking about their effected sex drive to their physicians. “What is worrying is that patients are often reluctant to speak to their doctor about this, which means they continue to suffer both physically and emotionally. We encourage doctors to initiate conversations with patients to offer support to those that may benefit.” concluded Professor Gisela Kobelt, lead researcher.
