Author JD Salinger dies aged 91

JD Salinger was a legendary author whose attitude towards society was reflected in his books. The Washington Post labeled the author as “America’s literary anti-hero”. He gradually became a hero to a world and society he at first shocked, and proceeded to shun. He wrote ‘Catcher in the Rye’, a novel that is now considered to be one of the greatest American novels of the 20^th century.

According to a statement released by Salinger’s literary representative, the author’s son said he died of natural causes at his home in Cornish, New Hampshire, on January 27.

“Despite having broken his hip in May, his health had been excellent until a rather sudden decline after the new year,” CNN quotes the statement as reading. “He was not in any pain before or at the time of his death.”

The author, who was known for his reclusiveness, had isolated himself in a small, remote house in New Hampshire for decades, and, “in keeping with his life long, uncompromising desire to protect and defend his privacy there will be no service,” the statement continued.
