Brittany Murphy’s death is under investigation
Published: December 21, 2020
The death of the ‘Girl, Interrupted’ star made headlines worldwide. Many were shocked to hear the actress died of cardiac arrest at the age of 32. We reported yesterday that Brittany’s mother reportedly called 911 after finding her unconscious in the shower. Paramedics were not able to revive her and she was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.
People.com reports that initial investigations carried out by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office have ruled out foul play and have found her death to be of natural causes.
Coroner’s Captain John Kades said: “Foul play is not suspected at this time because there were no outward signs of trauma or other injuries.”
An autopsy is expected to take place on Monday.
“We don’t have an autopsy scheduled yet, but we will do it as soon as possible,” Kades said. “Given all the worldwide attention, if we can get it done [Monday], we will.”
A toxicology report, which will determine whether alcohol or drugs were involved, will also be conducted. This, in particular, will clarify reports TMZ.com has published, claiming a source told them Brittany was vomiting and very ill in the days before her death. She was allegedly consuming prescription medication, of which, a source said, there was “a lot” in the house.
While the family, friends and fans await the results of the investigation, others have already begun mourning the actress. Former boyfriend and ‘Just Married’ co-star Ashton Kutcher wrote on his Twitter page: “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon.”
Other celebrities who died in 2009 include Stephen Gately, Casey Johnson, Adam Goldstein and Michael Jackson.
