Elizabeth Edwards’ will omits estranged husband John Edwards
Published: January 07, 2021
Elizabeth Edwards, who lost her long standing battle against breast cancer last month, left her entire estate to her three children in her will, but there was no mention of anything being left for her estranged husband, the former Senator, John Edwards.
The will was filed just a few days before she passed away, and in it Edwards names her oldest daughter, Cate Edwards, 28, as executor, leaving the estate to her and the couple’s other two children, Emma Claire and Jack.
“All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewellery, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles owned by me at the time of my death I give and bequeath to my children,” were Edwards wishes as expressed in the will, signed on December 1, 2010.
Her husband, John Edwards isn’t mentioned at all, but given the nature of their estrangement it comes as little surprise. The will was first published by The Huffington Post, and has since been published on various websites, including ABC News.
Elizabeth Edwards stood by, and supported her husband as he tried unsuccessfully on two occasions to bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, but Elizabeth left him in January 2010, effectively ending their 32 year marriage, after it was made public that he had been unfaithful to her.
Edwards’s decision to leave her husband came less than a week after John Edwards, a wealthy and successful trial lawyer, admitted that he had fathered a child with campaign aide Rielle Hunter as he sought the 2008 nomination.
Elizabeth Edwards was a successful author, writing “Resilience” and “Saving Graces,” about her battle with cancer and the loss of her son Wade in a car accident.
She died on Dec 7 at age 61. Her will was filed in Orange County, North Carolina.
