Rhys Ifans arrested for battery

Spider-Man star Rhys Ifans was arrested yesterday for battery after getting into a scuffle with a female bodyguard. The Welsh actor apparently became confrontational after members of his entourage were refused entry into a Comic-Con event in San Diego. Apparently, he smelt strongly of alcohol.
The 44-year-old, who also starred in British classic Notting Hill, apparently got “abusive, belligerent and aggressive,” when the female guard said that a few of the star’s pals did not have the proper credentials to enter before shoving her out of the way to let his friends pass.
Ifans was at the world famous convention to promote his new movie, The Amazing Spider-Man alongside his co-stars Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. He was allowed to participate in the panel, but the female guard made a citizens arrest afterwards and waited for the police to arrive. He was cited for misdemeanor battery and allowed to leave.
“He was verbally abusive to all around … security, the police department and the USA,” said Lieutenant Andra Brown.
The San Diego City Attorney is now set to determine whether to pursue charges against the actor. Sony Pictures, which will distribute the latest Spider-Man movie, said Ifans “deeply regrets the incident.”
In the film, which is set to be released in July next year, Ifans plays the villain The Lizard.
Other celebs who have recently run into trouble with the law include Hangover actor Douglas Brian Irvin Jr., who was arrested on sexual assault charges, and Nicholas Cage, who was arrested after having a public spat with his wife.
