Many famous people have ADHD including actors, scientists, entrepreneurs and artists. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder must be seen as a positive rather than a curse because it is supposed to be a sign of great thinking minds.

American actor Ty Pennington has ADHD, along with some other celebrities like Robin Williams, Jim Carrey and Woody Allen. At the tender age of 17, he was diagnosed with ADHD after some concerning behavioral issues in his school life. Ty, with his willingness to bring awareness about ADHD, earned great recognition from the TV and film industries.

In an interview with WVEC.com, Ty recollected one of his school incidents and said: “My mom was a child psychologist, and she went to my elementary school and she observed me and in the process of 15 minutes I stripped naked, slapped Johnny on the head, tried to set the class on fire and swung from the blinds,” recalled Ty.

“To make a long story short, I had the symptoms of distractibility and impulsivity.”

Ty Pennington with his famous show ‘Extreme Home Makeover’ helped many people suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to overcome this problem and use it in a positive manner. Once he visited Sherwood School to bring awareness among the kids and shared his personal life experiences saying: “One day my mom sat down in the hallway and just broke down crying,” he says, “because I was such a handful and a nightmare.”

Ty Pennington has been a true inspiration for many suffering from ADHD and he actually eliminated this notion that this attention deficit disorder is something to be scared of. Through his inspirational and motivational talks, he completely changed the mindsets of people.

Ty is still taking a prescribed drug called Addell-RX on a regular basis and has completely transformed his life through this effective treatment. Summing up his experience, he once said: “I know what’s it’s like to grow up with ADHD and how important it is for parents, caregivers and patients, to have access to accurate information.

“I hope that by working with all of these great people and sharing how support and treatment has made a difference in my life, I’ll help other kids and families understand that there are people out there ready to help them and that it’s possible to live a productive life with ADHD.”

Other celebrities who have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD include Will SmithMichael PhelpsJim Carrey and Jamie Oliver.
