Uma Thurman quit smoking after years of failed attempts
Published: February 11, 2021
Hollywood star Uma Thurman is most well known for her leading roles in a wide variety of movies, ranging from romantic comedies and dramas to action films. Beginning her career as a model at the young age of 15, she is now best known for her work in movies like ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, ‘The Avengers’, and ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Kill Bill’, the latter two under the direction of renowned director Quentin Tarantino.
Nominated for countless awards, Uma has a secure spot among the A-list of Hollywood celebrities. Uma, however, was also among those celebrities who smoked. “I used to smoke so much that I got winded if I did any exercise,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying. According to quitsmokingpainlesslynow.com, Uma had reportedly started numerous attempts to quit smoking, all of which ended unsuccessfully.
After many reports of her having quit smoking, beginning in the late 1990s, she was always spotted afterwards with a cigarette in hand. According to the website, Uma claimed her then-husband Ethan Hawke was in part to blame. “Ethan started smoking again, so now I’m struggling with this again,“ she reportedly told Elle magazine in their April 2001 issue.
The ‘Gattica’ star eventually must have realized the bad effects of smoking. She even spoke publicly about the aftermaths and negative effects it had on her career. The star blamed the grip of nicotine for her failure to land movie roles in the past, claiming the habit left her out of breath and unable to tackle action scenes.
So Uma desperately attempted to quit smoking, and was really happy she did so. Deceiver.com quotes the actress as saying: “Thank goodness I’ve unhooked myself from the slavery of nicotine. My evil old buddy has gone.”
