Colin Farrell confronted his addictions for the sake of his son

With many blockbusters to his name, actor Colin Farrell is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood. Like many other celebrities, Colin had seen many ups and downs in his professional and personal life.
Born in 1975, Colin Farrell kick started his career in 1998 with his debut in ‘The War Zone’. 2003 proved successful for Colin Farrell with his outstanding roles in films like ‘Phone Booth’, ‘S.W.A.T’ and ‘Recruit’. His performances were critically acclaimed and from here his career started growing.
In 2005, he earned an Academy Award nod for his film ‘The New World’. His role of John Smith was highly praised and recognized. Other hits include ‘Miami Vice’ and ‘Alexander’.
But the year 2005 also came with a lot of health issues for the actor, including the overdose of recreational drugs and painkillers. In December 2005 he checked into rehab before leaving in January 2006.
In an interview with BBC’s Jonathan Ross, Farrell admits to have been constantly drunk and high for well over a decade.
“I was dying,” he said.
“So much of the work that I did I was struggling so hard to keep my shit together.
“A lot of my energy was going into trying not to have a complete meltdown.
“By the end of Miami Vice I was just done.
“I had created an environment for myself, a way of living for myself which, on the outside, seemed incredibly gregarious and vivacious.”
Colin also admits, however, he had another motivation for entering rehab and getting his life back on track - his son James.
“Having my son, as well, was the primary reason,” Farrell said on ‘The David Letterman Show’ six months after leaving rehab.
“I just wanted to be there for him. I wanted to be clear, be around him, and remember being with him.”
Colin declared sobriety in 2006 after his successful stay at the centre.
